Early Programs
Our Goal at Family Focus is to provide the best possible developmental care for children in their parent’s absence. Our staff works hard to create an environment and program that consistently meets the developmental needs of children. We provide a supportive and caring child/teacher community with stimulating experiences conducive to learning. We work to help children develop a positive self-concept, independence, and understanding of their own needs and relationships with others. We foster growth in large and fine motor competence, a sense of responsibility for one’s actions, and the confidence, skills, and curiosity to explore actively and communicate with others. With these general developmental goals in mind, we challenge ourselves to be leaders in our field to provide an equal and fair opportunity to all our families in our community.
Infant
The Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers, and Twos, includes goals and objectives for children’s learning in all areas of development: Social/emotional, physical, cognitive, and language. Goals and objectives show where you want to go; the curriculum tells you how to get there.
Toddler

PRESCHOOL
The Creative Curriculum for Preschool incorporates research findings as well as new requirements for addressing content. With its emphasis on the role of the teacher in connecting content, teaching, and learning, the Curriculum is a comprehensive approach to working with young children.
Tools of the Mind curriculum for preschool age children is a comprehensive curriculum that presents content in an integrated, developmental way so that instruction forms a coherent whole. Instructional strategies used in Tools are a combination of child-initiated activities, teacher scaffolding and explicit instruction, individualization through multiple levels of scaffolding and on-going use of assessment data to tailor interactions to meet individual needs. Progress is monitored daily, weekly, and monthly.
Maine Early Learning Development Standards (MELDS)- The experiences children have between birth and age eight shape the developing brain’s architecture and directly influence later life outcomes, including economic stability, work productivity, and mental health. Positive early childhood experiences improve developmental and school readiness outcomes, increase K–12 achievement, and contribute to higher rates of high school graduation. Maine’s Early Learning and Development Standards supports the work of early childhood educators, families, and community members in creating supportive, learning- rich environments for all young children in Maine.
Pre K for ME is adapted from the Boston Public Schools’ Focus on K1 curriculum and is aligned with Maine’s Early Learning and Development Standards. Pre K for ME includes learning experiences intentionally designed to support children in the domains of math, language, literacy, and science.
